Nekomo stands on the shoulders of the Shiro and Kuro No projects — and lives on through everyone who keeps it going. Led today by N3K0, Head Developer & Project Lead.

History Where Nekomo came from, and what happened to the projects before it

Shiro Origin

The project that started it all. Shiro was an early anime client that came first, laying the groundwork later picked up by other projects. Development eventually stalled, leaving the community looking for a successor.

Kuro No Successor

Built by Deceptions, Kuro No came after Shiro, sharing lineage with the broader Cloudstream/Kuro ecosystem. Like its predecessor, active development slowed down over time as maintainers moved on.

Nekomo Today

When both Shiro and Kuro No fell quiet, N3K0 and the community forked and merged what remained of them into Nekomo — officially described as "a fork of Kuro No & Shiro (og source code) for watching anime." N3K0 didn't work on either original project — Nekomo is where that work started, and N3K0 has led the project as Head Developer ever since, carrying the torch forward as a fully open-source, community-maintained anime client alongside contributions from the wider community.
