What Nekomo does and does not do with your data. Short version: we don't collect it.

Contents
1. Summary
Nekomo is an open-source client app. We do not run a backend that collects your personal data, we do not sell data, and the app is not built to include advertising or analytics SDKs. Most data stays on your device or is exchanged directly between your device and the third-party services you choose to use.
Because the code is public, you can verify this at Nekomo-App/Neko-Source.
2. What we collect
The Nekomo maintainers do not receive an account, name, email address, or location from the app. We do not operate servers that store your watch history or lists.
If you contact us (GitHub issue, Discord, Telegram), we see whatever information you choose to send us, handled under those platforms’ policies.
3. Data stored on your device
The app stores the following locally in app-private storage:
- preferences and settings (theme, player options, DNS-over-HTTPS provider, etc.);
- watch history, bookmarks, favorites, and download records;
- access tokens for any AniList, MyAnimeList, or Kitsu account you sign in with;
- installed extensions, extension repositories, and their settings;
- your offline library, search history and source update history (search history and watch progress are not saved while incognito mode is on);
- a rolling error log (see below).
Uninstalling the app or clearing its storage removes this data. Android backups may include some of it depending on your device settings.
4. Third-party services
When you use a feature that talks to another service, your device connects to it directly and that service may receive your IP address, device/user-agent details, and the data needed for the request:
- AniList, MyAnimeList, Kitsu — sign-in, list syncing, and metadata. Governed by their privacy policies.
- Kitsu, Jikan (MyAnimeList), TVMaze and TMDB — backup and movie/TV metadata. TMDB only runs if you add your own API key.
- YouTube — trailers are fetched with an open-source extractor and played in the built-in player; YouTube may receive your IP address and device details.
- Metadata and artwork providers — titles, images, and descriptions.
- Streaming sources and extensions — any provider reached through content sources or user-installed extensions. Nekomo does not control these, and they may log requests or track you. Extensions are third-party code; install only ones you trust.
- GitHub — used for app update checks, source update checks, extension downloads and the optional Nekomo repository list.
- DNS-over-HTTPS providers (optional) — Cloudflare, Google, AdGuard, or Quad9 if you enable them.
We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these services. Review their policies before using them.
5. Error logs
Nekomo keeps a rolling crash/error log in app-private storage. It stays on your device unless you choose to copy, save, share, or attach it to a GitHub issue (Settings → History → Error log). Logs may contain technical details such as stack traces, URLs, and device model, so review them before sharing publicly. You can clear the log at any time.
6. Network & DNS
By default the app uses your system DNS. In Settings → General you can choose a DNS-over-HTTPS provider for the app’s own API and scraping requests. This does not cover the video connections made by the player.
7. This website
The Nekomo website is a static site hosted on Netlify. We do not use advertising trackers or analytics cookies. The site stores a few preferences in your browser’s local storage (for example, the verification check, disclaimer acknowledgement, petal/motion settings, and your background music on/off, volume, and custom track link if you set one). None of this leaves your browser or identifies you. Our hosting provider, GitHub (when the Beta/Releases pages query the GitHub API), and YouTube (if you enable background music) may process standard connection data such as your IP address in their own logs — see Background Music & External Links.
8. Sharing & selling
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal data, because we do not collect it. Nothing is shared with advertisers.
9. Retention & deletion
Data on your device is kept until you delete it. To remove it: clear the app’s storage, sign out of the linked services, or uninstall. To delete data held by AniList, MyAnimeList, or Kitsu, use those services’ own account tools.
10. Security
We rely on Android’s app sandboxing and HTTPS for network traffic where the remote service supports it. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, and beta/debug builds may be less hardened. Only download Nekomo from official Nekomo-App sources.
11. Children
Nekomo is not directed to children under 13 (or the higher age required in your region) and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. Linked third-party accounts must meet those services’ age requirements.
12. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port personal data. Because we do not hold personal data about you, such requests generally have to be directed at the third-party services above. If you believe we hold data about you, contact us and we will help.
13. Changes
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be announced on the website or community channels.
