Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of terms

By downloading, installing, or using the Nekomo Android / Android TV application, the Nekomo website (nekomoapp.netlify.app), or any related community service (together, the “Service”), you agree to these Terms of Service, our Privacy Policy, the Community Rules, and the DMCA & Disclaimer. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. What Nekomo is

Nekomo is a free, community-maintained, open-source application for browsing anime information, tracking your list, and playing media from sources you choose to enable. Source code is published at Nekomo-App/Neko-Source.

Nekomo is a community project and is not under guaranteed active development. Features may change, break, or be removed at any time without notice.

3. Eligibility

You must be old enough to enter a binding agreement where you live, and at least the minimum age required by any third-party account you link (AniList, MyAnimeList, Kitsu). If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, use Nekomo only with a parent or guardian’s permission. Some content reachable through third-party sources may be unsuitable for minors.

4. Accounts & third-party sign-in

Nekomo does not run its own account system. Sign-in is performed with AniList, MyAnimeList, or Kitsu, and is governed by those services’ own terms and privacy policies. You are responsible for your credentials and for all activity under your accounts. Nekomo is not affiliated with those services.

Access tokens are stored on your device. Do not share your device, backups, or tokens with others.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• use the Service in violation of any law or regulation, or to infringe anyone’s copyright or other rights;
• harass, threaten, or abuse others, or post hateful, illegal, or otherwise harmful material in our community spaces;
• spam, scam, impersonate staff, or advertise unrelated products or services;
• attack, overload, scrape abusively, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or any third-party service it connects to;
• circumvent the website's basic content-protection measures (right-click, text selection, and similar deterrents) to copy or redistribute site content outside of what these Terms otherwise allow;
• repackage, redistribute, or sell Nekomo as your own product, or distribute modified builds that remove attribution or add malware, ads, or trackers;
• use Nekomo to circumvent paywalls, DRM, or other technical protection measures.

6. No hosted content

Nekomo does not host, store, upload, stream, or distribute any video, audio, image, or other media. It does not operate, own, or control any streaming server, content provider, or download provider. The app is a client that displays information and plays whatever sources you configure. See the DMCA & Disclaimer.

Metadata, artwork, and descriptions come from third-party APIs and belong to their respective owners.

7. Extensions & third-party sources

Nekomo can load optional extensions (such as CloudStream .cs3 plugins, Zangetsu scripts and Aniyomi or Mihon extensions) written and published by independent third parties. Nekomo does not create, review, endorse, or control these extensions or the sites they access, and they run with the permissions of the app.

Nekomo ships with no sources installed. An optional official repository of free and legal sources can be added from Settings → Extensions; nothing is installed until you add it and confirm. Nekomo can check for and install updates to script and plugin sources you installed (you can turn this off), but it never downloads, installs or updates APK extensions automatically.

• Only install extensions from people you trust. A malicious extension can read data available to the app and make network requests.
• You are solely responsible for the extensions you add and for the content you access through them.
• Content availability, legality, accuracy, and safety are the responsibility of the third party providing it.
• Adult (18+) sources and content are allowed but hidden by default. You may only enable them if you are 18 or older (or the age of majority where you live), and you do so at your own responsibility. See the Sources guide.

8. Intellectual property & open source

The Nekomo source code is published under the license(s) stated in its repository, and parts may be derived from other open-source projects under their own licenses (including GPL-licensed code). Those licenses govern your rights to the code.

The Nekomo name, logo, and mascot artwork are the property of the Nekomo project. All other names, logos, trademarks, and content belong to their respective owners. No affiliation or endorsement is implied.

9. Beta and test builds

Builds labelled beta, debug, alpha, or nightly (see the Beta page) are unfinished test software. They may crash, lose local data, contain bugs or security flaws, and may be removed at any time. Use them at your own risk, and only download APKs from the official Nekomo-App GitHub repositories. Unofficial copies may be tampered with.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AVAILABILITY, ACCURACY, OR SECURITY. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.

11. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE NEKOMO CONTRIBUTORS AND MAINTAINERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR DEVICE DAMAGE, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE OR ANY THIRD-PARTY CONTENT OR EXTENSION. Because the Service is free, our total liability for any claim is limited to zero (USD 0) to the extent permitted by law. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

12. Indemnification

You agree to hold harmless the Nekomo contributors and maintainers from any claim or demand arising from your misuse of the Service, your violation of these terms or of any law, or your infringement of any third party’s rights.

13. Termination

You may stop using Nekomo at any time by uninstalling the app. We may restrict access to our community spaces or website for anyone who breaks these terms or the Community Rules. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including disclaimers, limitations of liability, and indemnification) will survive.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date above shows the latest revision. Continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated terms.

15. Governing law

Because Nekomo is a distributed community project, these terms are interpreted in accordance with applicable law in the jurisdiction in which you reside, except where mandatory local law provides otherwise. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remainder stays in effect.
